1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)
films, one of the most popular ways of entertainment for people, arecomplex semiotic systems consisting of textual, auditory, linguistic, spatial,and visual resources used to compose messages. while construing andappreciating a film, however, it can be observed that audiences do not alwaysinterpret implicatures in the way the filmmakers would like them to, butrespond to them intellectually and emotionally. audience are never passiveaddressees but actively engage in problem-solving, hypothesis-building and inference-making.this case-study attempts to further verify the feasibilityof a multimodal pragmatics analysis of implicatures in film dialogue basedon relevance theory and discuss how the indirectness in film is constructed andconveyed.
implicature, as one of the most salient pragmatic phenomena, has beenattracting the attention of many linguists, especially pragmaticists. accordingto lay (2009), films model suprasegmental information, such as intonation orturn- taking, and body language, which serves as a commonstaple in pragmatics teaching for practicing a wide array of language skillsand cultural analysis. thus the construal of implicature in the polysemioticcontext plays a pivotal role in grasping the messages underlying in film andthe translations of the subtitles. in addition, the methodological apparatusproposed in this case study would be worth recommending for further research onother multimedial forms with rich semiotic resources, including television,theatre, advertisement, audiovisual and mobile device communication.
