withtheaccelerationoftheprocessofglobalization,culturalexchangesbetweencountriesareincreasingrapidly.tvseries,asoneofthemainmodesoftransmissionofpopularculture,havebeenplayinganimportantroleinmutualcommunicationbetweencultures.agrowingnumberofpeoplebegintolearntheculturesofothercountriesbymeansofwatchingforeigntvseries,butthereareseveralconstraintsinsubtitletranslationsuchastechnicalconstraint.thoseproblemshavemakeitdifficultfortheaudiencetounderstandforeigntvseriesbecauseoftheconstraintsofsubtitletranslation.therefore,howtotranslatesubtitleseffectivelyshouldbecarefullystudiedinordertoreproducetheculturalconnotationsintvseries.
subtitletranslationinourcountrybeganinthe1950s.researchersinthetranslationcirclealwayspaymoreattentiontothetranslationofliteraryworks,whilesubtitletranslationisignoredbymosttranslatorstosomeextent.comparedwiththewest,subtitletranslationinourcountrystartslaterandlacksmoreprofessionalresearch.althoughsomefamoustranslatorshaveputforwardafewrulesofsubtitletranslation,thematureandcompletetranslationtheorysystemofsubtitlehavenotyetcomeintobeinginourcountry.thereisnouniformandauthoritativestandardsofsubtitletranslation,whichisincontradictionwiththeneedofexcellentsubtitletranslationbecauseofmoreandmoreforeigntvseriesintroducedintoourcountry.fortunately,thepracticabilityandsignificanceofsubtitletranslationgraduallyachieveattention.itisnecessarytoguidethesubtitletranslationthroughaneffectivetheory.
theskopostheoryisanapproachtotranslationwhichwasputforwardbyhansvermeeranddevelopedingermanyinthelate1970s.itholdsthattheintendedaddresseeoraudienceofthetranslationisthemostimportantfactorthatcandecideontheaimoftranslation.itfocusesontranslationasanactivitywithanaimorpurpose.inawaytheskopostheoryisabletoprovideanewperspectiveforsubtitletranslationsothatthetranslatorscanchoosethesuitablemethodsoftranslation.thisthesisaimstogiveadetailedanalysisofsubtitletranslationfromtheperspectiveoftheskopostheorythroughthecasestudyofdowntonabbey.
2. 研究的基本内容与方案
AtpresentthesignificanceandpracticabilityofthesubtitletranslationhasbeenpaidmoreandmoreattentionbecausetheincreasingnumberofforeignTVseriesandfilmsarebeingintroducedintoourcountry.However,therearemanyspecificculturalmeaningsthatarecontainedintheTVseriesandfilms.Thiskindofculturalconnotationsishardforforeignaudiencetounderstandandaccept.Thus,thetaskofthisthesisissupposedtoconductthesubtitletranslationfromtheperspectiveoftheSkopostheorycombinedwiththecasestudyofDowntonAbbey.
Inthisthesis,theauthoranalyzesthegeneralfeaturesofsubtitletranslationandthencomparesitwiththetranslationoftheliteraryworks.Throughthecomparisonbetweensubtitletranslationandthetranslationoftheliteraryworks,thedifferencesinthestrategiesoftranslationcanbefoundsothattranslatorswillhaveaclearerideaofthesubtitletranslation.Inordertosolvetheproblemsofthesubtitletranslation,theauthoradvocatesanewperspectivethatistheSkopostheory.WiththehelpoftheSkopostheory,thisthesisprovidesacompletelynewviewonthesubtitletranslationandgivesguidanceonhowtochoosethebeststrategiesofsubtitletranslation.
