1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)

nowadays people will get more chances to communicate internationally in english. obviously, spoken english is playing much more important role in communications. so, for college students, oral english proficiency has not only become essential in daily life communication, but also become a competitive skill in their future career. in the traditional college english classes, teachers and students spend time in learning grammar and words but pay less attention on listening and speaking training, and classes are in large scales which hinder the oral english practice, which results in the situation that some of the students have obstacles in listening and speaking skills. therefore, how to help college students express themselves accurately and fluently in english and how some new approaches are employed in oral english learning become a heated research topic.

in last century, western experts did some researches in this field. according to bygate(1978), there are some common features of spoken language: using less complex syntax, using fixed conventional phrases, and hesitation device to give time to think before speaking. in 1980s, krashen started affective filter hypothesis that a number of affective variables—motivation, self-confidence and anxiety play a facilitative but not causal role in second language acquisition. besides, shehan(1989) found that personality has effect on english output. o’malley and chamot’s (1990) divided language learning strategies into three types: meta-cognitive, cognitive, and social strategies. cohen (1998) classified learning strategies into language learning strategies and language use strategies. mcdonough (1995) holds that oral english strategies are connected with learning strategies, and communication strategies which are closely related to oral english strategies.

according to some researches in china, in the late 1980s, wu yi’an, liu runqing made the comprehensive research of chinese learners of english, in which they regarded learning strategies as one of the major factors. wen qiufang, who was the leading researcher, pointed that language learning strategies have great influence on students' achievement and the key factor for a student to improve language learning is that he should adjust or sometimes even change his learning strategies according to the different learning tasks and situations. liu yingchun(2010), discussed the main factors influencing college students’ oral english output from the internal factors and external factors. so we need to know the obstacles in oral english learning for most college students, to analyze why these obstacles are hard to overcome and find out the measures to deal with the obstacles. nowadays the studies of learning strategies in china have developed rapidly in these years, there is still broad space for further exploration and research.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

at first, the paper will clarify the research background and meaning, theoretical frame and structure of this thesis. then, i will focus on the general overview of learning strategies, analyze their importance and categorization.

there is a case study in which nearly 500 non-english majors aged in 18-22, covered 4 grades and various majors, will be randomly selected as samples. two instruments were used to gather the data for this study: questionnaire and interview. the case study aims to find out the main factors that affect the oral english learning for non-english majors and study the relationship between learners and learning strategies. then, i will analyze the findings from two aspects: first, the relationship between environmental factors and students' oral english.(i.e. classroom environment, social cultural factors) second, the relationship between affective factors and students' oral english output.(i.e. attitude, motivation, anxiety, self-esteem)

at last, this paper will summarize the whole passage, figure out the deficiencies of the paper, and some necessary countermeasures of improving oral english and learning methods will be put forward.
