1. 研究目的与意义

Duringthe past centuries, black females have suffered a lot from sexual and racialdiscrimination, they had no right to choose the person they married with, theirjob and even their lives. They could only live like a slave, they have enduredit so long that they never thought of resist. At the same time, there were fewliterature about black women then. It has not changed until 1970s, when blackwomen writers showed their ability and created numbers of outstanding works.Alice Walker and Toni Morrison are two of the eminent women writers, theyfocuses on black women’s status and their fighting with the unfair. The word“womanism” was proposed by Alice Walker to describe the striving, which isdescribed as ‘a form of feminism considered distinct from White feministdoctrines, particularly among black theorists’ in dictionary. The Color Purple is one of themasterpieces of Alice Walker and Sula the same to Toni Morrison. There are two protagonists —Shug and Sula, who havethe similar social status, the similar attitudes to sexism and even the similar awareness of anti-patriarchy in these two books. But they have gotdifferent endings: Shug helps other women to have the ability to live on theirown while Sula’s friend Nel finally has the sense of self-consciousness yearsafter Sula’s death. This paper analyzes these two characters from theperspective of womanism and sisterhood to find common ground in their awarenessof anti-patriarchy, as well as in awakening other women and their attitudestowards gender. At the same time, through the comparison of their growingenvironment, the source of their anti-patriarchy consciousness, as well as thenarrative way of the novel, the ways they wake up other women, this paper will explorethe different ways of black women''s liberation.
