with the outbreak of two world wars and thedevelopment of science and technology, intellectuals began to re-examine depthof social problems since the twentieth century, leading to the birth ofdystopian literature, which emerged as a powerful tool for writers tocounterattack the dark reality. dystopian novels describe the disadvantagesbrought about by utopian ideal society, and the lack of human nature has alwaysbeen one of the problems they are dedicated to revealing.
aldous leonard huxley was a famous britishnovelist in the 20th century, the bravenew world was his classic work, and it was called a dystopian trilogy withgeorge orwell''''''''''''''''s 1984 and eugenezamiatin''''''''''''''''s we, having a profoundinfluence on the at home abroad. the bravenew world was aimed primarily at so-called scientism, depicting a utopiansociety under scientism. the unreasonable system in the utopian societydescribed in the book was the irony of the development trend of modern society,having high practical value.
neverlet me go, the novel ofjapanese-british novelist kazuo ishiguro, was published in 2005 and won the2017 nobel prize in literature. it was a very representative dystopian novel ofthe 21st century. with cloning as the background, the novel described a storythat human bred clones for organ donation, revealing the serious consequencesof the abuse of science and technology and the violence of totalitarian rule.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
the bravenew world and never let me go aretypical dystopian novels. the brave newworld mainly depicted a future world in which the society, science andtechnology were highly developed. however, in the mechanical civilized society,people lost their freedom and human nature. neverlet me go was about a group of clones and their life as organ donors. bothof them expressed the thinking about human nature and freedom by describing anew world under the totalitarianism of science and technology.
the paper aims to summarize thecharacteristics of the female characters in dystopian novels from theperspective of comparative analysis. and since both of the two novels were basedon the theme of the decay of human nature caused by the abuse of science andtechnology, this paper also tries to further discuss the value of human natureand advocate the rational use of science and technology.
this paper focuses on the similarities anddifferences between the main female characters in the two novels and it isdivided into five parts. the first part is mainly about theoretical researchesand literature review of the two novels. the second chapter tries to make someanalysis of the predestined fate of kathy, ruth, lenina and linda, includingtheir birth, ways of cultivation and the psychological changes in their processof growth. chapter three mainly discusses their relationships and studies thesimilarities and differences among them when dealing with kinship, friendshipand love. the purpose of the fourth chapter is to analyze their identitycrisis, including self-cognitive dilemma and self-worth realization. the lastchapter is a summary of the previous paper, and makes some thinking about humannature and the existence value of female characters in dystopian novels.

bravenew world and never let me go are two veryrepresentative dystopian novels. the two novels were set against the backgroundof controversial cloning techniques, but unlike most science fiction, theauthors did not make ethical or moral criticisms of the technique. instead,they described the possibilities of the post-human era in an objective manner.using the genre of science fiction, the authors got rid of the limitations ofthe specific social and historical situations and discussed some dilemmas thatstill plague human society.
