Study on the English Translation of President Xi Jinping’s Wise Quotes in the Official Speeches （2017-2019）开题报告

As China is the world''''s largest developing country, itspolitical trends have always attracted attention worldwide. President XiJinping''''s official speeches have always become China''''s 'highlightmoments' on the global stage. A variety of President Xi’s wise quotes inhis speeches, not only become deeply etched in people’s minds, but are also frequentlyquoted in different languages as translated versions. Under the policy of 'GoingOut', “Telling a Good Chinese Story” has become the widely-accepted normfor translators and interpreters in China, and the translation of PresidentXi''''s wise quotes in his official speeches represents the highest level of translationpractice and an essential source of translation study. This study isconducive to improving the translators'''' political translation capabilitiesand better fulfilling their historical mission of helping Chinese culture “goout”.

(2019) studies the translationof classical poetry in President Xi''''s speech. Kuang Y. (2019) studies thetrend and translation methods of translating vocabulary with Chinesecharacteristics in the second volume of XiJinping: The Governance of China.

Apartfrom related domestic studies, of which the representative works have beenlisted above, many studies focused on this topic as well, for thetranslations of President Xi’s works represent China’s internationalpublicity and their translated editions represent the country’s highest levelof political translation. Zappone, T. (2018) digs into the strategies ofconveying the country’s external political messages based on editorialprojects of western language editions of the collection Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, while based on the same bookby President Xi, Wang, W., Sandaran, S.C. et al (2019)examined the methods of translating Chinese idioms, policies, and guidelines,classical literature with the focus of cultural translation.
