Characteristics and Social Functions of American slang开题报告

1. 研究目的与意义

Slang is a kind of language form, and people use it in their daily life. Compared with official language, slang has the advantage of convenience and humorousness. Almost everyone tend to use slangs to express their feelings and thinkings. So, from this aspect, American slang has a significent studying meaning, and just likes a mirror that can reflect the social situation and cultural character of America. Analyzing the American slang can give us a unique way to get closer to America people and culture, and give us a great help to learn English.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

This thesis puts emphasis on the social function and the character of American slang, attempting to use the sociolinguistic perspective to make a clear explanation on it. The first part of this thesis mainly discusses the common aspects of slang like the definition, origin and the characteristics of slang. The second part will focus on the connection between slang and culture, and i will use some metaphor to express the connection clearly. The third part will mention the social function of American slang, and make the conlucsion.

3. 国内外研究现状

There are some researches on the analysis of American slang. Some mentioned the connection between American slang and the subculture groups. For example, written by Guo Jiu-lin in china. Zhuo Yanni has offered the opinion on a sociolinguistic analysis of American slang. Because of the important role of the slang in study, many researchers use American slang as an easy method to revel the American culture. This is also the aim of my essay.

Introduction As we all know that the American slang is a portion of culture. It#8217;s a widow for us to have a brief view on the American society. Nowadays, with the development of the globalization, it is a shortcut for English learners to have a better understanding for the American culture. I make this assay from the social aspect and want to find some links between slang and the American society feature. Only by this way, can we have a clear look into the American slang.
