This paper makes a concrete analysis of the symbolic meaning from the theme, clue and ploy of the novel. Hope to have a more comprehensive understanding of its symbolic significance.

In Europe and America, 'Moby Dick' research mainly involves the race, class, culture and genre. The study of its symbolic meaning is distributed in different articles which comment the work. In China, 'Moby Dick' symbolism has been excavated on multiple meanings. The whale#8217;s symbolic significance has reached consensus. Scholars study its symbolic meaning from the perspective of nature, social politics and the definition between good and evil. Other studies on the symbolic meaning of 'Moby Dick' including the sea, Ahab, the ship and the voyage. According the current situation, Moby-Dick#8217;s symbolic meaning need to continue to explore.
