1.purpose and novelty

prodigious developments in thematerial science reflect that humanity has travelled a great distance from thestone-age to the current modern-age. right from the beginning, man is lookingforward to engineer the new materials to successfully deal the challenges.around the globe material scientists are actively engaged in exploring the highprofile of featured properties and functional stability for the required usevalue for various materials.[1] therefore, material science hasbecome highly useful in designing the formulation and characterization ofmaterials from very simple to symmetrically self-assembled moleculararchitectures and technological processes.[2] in supramolecular science,self-assemblies with the highest degree of symmetry composed of multiplenumbers of subunits are very common in biological systems.[3]

before the end of 20thcentury the concept of molecular nanosize containers was introduced andcompounds constituted from different chemical formulations like organic[5] or metal-organic[6] were reported. metal-organicpolyhedra (mops)[7], are not infinite networks likemetal-organic frameworks (mofs)[8], but are discrete molecularentities constructed from the self-assembly of edge-sharing molecular polygonsor from the connection of molecular vertices.[9] mops are discrete at the size ofnanoscale cage like architectures having an outer and inner surface and arealso termed as nanocages, nanospheres, nanocapsules or nanoballs. mops havepotential applications in material science by acting as host molecules thatpresent tolerable in-house capacity described in the terms of functionality,metrics and active metal sites. inspired from this aspect mops have becomeattractive for works in catalysis[10], drug delivery[11], gas sorption[12], acting as secondary buildingblocks for nanoporous coordination networks, molecular recognition and sensing[13], etc.

preparation of materials: in order to obtain cubic mopwith only two metal centers, i would synthesize 0 degree angular dicarboxylicacids via suzuki coupling reaction. the self-assembly of [cu(l)2(dma)2]2 mops will be obtained. to a solution of h2l in dma would be added a dma solutionof cu2 (oac)42ho in a glass vialunder stirring.

week 1 to3: consult related literatures, get familiar to research content, raw materialsand instruments. then confirm and finish thesis proposal.

week 4 to 10: accordingto design, synthesize new organic ligands for cubic mops, and assemble new [m(l)2(dma)2]2 materials.
