1. 研究目的与意义

The purpose and the significance of the study: The debt and credit issue is one of the most controversial topics being discussed in the financial system. As we know, the 2008 financial crisis was triggered by the collapse of one mortgage loan company called New Century Financial Corporation (henceforth NCFC). Via this study, we would like to provide a penetrating and different perspective on the explanations of the NCFCs bankruptcy ranging from the major to peripheral, from external to internal, through which we present a detailed and different narrative on the subprime mortgage crisis.

Situation of the domestic and oversea study:Vast majority of existing domestic and oversea studies insist on attributing this financial crisis predominantly to the lack of incentives to monitor loan quality which, in our study, still plays a major role in triggering this financial shock. Other than this, in this paper, we try to present another description on the same event from the standpoint of the mortgage originators.

Using loan level data, we provide a comprehensive and penetrating horizon on the explanations of the NCFCs bankruptcy ranging through the major and peripheral, from external to internal together with a detailed literature on the subprime mortgage crisis. In addition, the discussion about what a company should do in a financial distress is also included.
