1. 研究目的与意义
Emphasis is the expression of the speaker, which aims to enhance mood and semantics by using various emphatic devices. Among these emphatic devices, the emphatic pattern has been the focus of academic study. Based on previous study, this paper adapts a new theory-Iconicity, to make a contrast between English and Chinese emphatic patterns in order to find the similarities and differences including some rules. In this way, English and Chinese learners can better understand emphatic pattern, and then apply it to study.

3. 国内外研究现状
In foreign countries, English emphatic pattern is considered as ''cleft sentence#8217;, which was first proposed by Otto Jespersen. He thinks its role is to highlight a component of a sentence. Another scholar- Poutsma regards emphatic pattern as meaningless. It exists only for the purpose of syntax. In China, Zhang Daozhen, Xu Shenghuan and Wang Guodong also make concrete research from the perspective of syntax. Among these, Xu Shenghuan has proposed ''cleft-syntagma''. Many scholars also have different views about Chinese emphatic pattern. The most obvious is Deng Shouxin#8217;s view that Chinese emphatic pattern is simple sentence rather than complex sentence.
4. 计划与进度安排
This paper will make a study of the similarities and differences of emphatic pattern between English and Chinese from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Firstly, this paper will introduce Iconicity briefly, including its definition and practical significance. The second part will make a concrete analysis from syntactic structure. Then, this paper will analyze the application of emphatic pattern in specific circumstance. Finally, based on former comparisons, some rules will be concluded.
